Mission

Created in 1997 on the initiative of Dr. Daniela Veronica Gușă de Drăgan.
It is a non-governmental,
non-profit organization with no political, religious, or other affiliations.

The Foundation bears the name of Lieutenant General Engineer Gușă Ştefan, Chief of Staff of the Romanian Army in the period from 25 September 1986 to 28 December 1989. Its mission is to carry out activities that support the study and promotion of the fundamental national values that have animated the entire military career and have constituted the distinctive features of the personality of General Ştefan Guşă, values such as:

- faith in the continuity of the Romanian homeland and people;
- the passion for the history of the country and the military history of the Romanian people;
- the faith in God that prompted him to take on the difficult task of having the church built in the village of Spataru, in the province of Buzau.
- love for the Romanian Army who served with competence, devotion, and love, and with confidence in its value.

A historic gesture

The main purpose of the Foundation is to ensure the broadest possible knowledge of the personality of General Ştefan Guşă and of the actions he undertook throughout his military career, but above all in a moment of historical importance for the freedom of the nation, for the independence and the integrity of Romania. The refusal of the so-called "brotherly help" of the Soviet troops, ready to intervene in the ongoing clashes on Romanian territory, remains one of General Ştefan Guşă's decisive actions, a memorable gesture carried out with lucidity, which changed the destiny of Romania. Engineer General Ştefan Guşă did his duty hoping that, in a more generous future with this nation, Romanians would learn the truth, "making them better, more humane and more confident in their lucky star".

HONORARY WILL

Am I accused of Romanism*? This pleases me, and I would like to deserve this accusation all my life (…). A small country like ours, with a particular geostrategic position, will continue to be the target of many. I suppose and somehow feel that in the future Romania will be the focus of extraordinarily large interests (…). Anyone who doesn't understand this means they don't understand Romanian, said General Stefan Gusa in an interview with an Army newspaper. This is not only a mark of national dignity, but also an honorific testament addressed at that time to the Romanians.

*National sentiment of Romanians.
